The Grand National at Aintree Racecourse is one of the most eagerly awaited steeplechase races of the season as 40 riders compete over 30 fences to claim the £1 million prize. With over 150,000 people predicted to attend over the three day race meeting it's vital to have your travel arrangements in place to ensure you don't fall at the first fence!
Although it is possible to travel to Aintree via car, train or bus all of these methods of transport will likely result in queuing which can cause delays and effect your plans on race day. That is why we recommend hiring a private helicopter to travel to the Grand National as it allows you to fly directly to the racecourse without any hassle.
The landing area for helicopters taking passengers to Aintree Racecourse is on the golf course to the east of the racecourse (usually situated on the 9th Fairway) which is a short walk to the racecourse itself. All aircraft usually approach the racecourse from the east to avoid flying over the main area of the racecourse for safety reasons although this is still close enough for passengers to enjoy a superb view of the racecourse when flying in.
Advantages of travelling by helicopter
There are many advantages for choosing to travel to the Grand National by helicopter, firstly as we've mentioned above it cuts out the delays incurred by using other modes of transport. Although trains run fairly frequently from Liverpool Lime Street to Aintree station it is a method used by many other race goers which can result in long waits at both stations when trying to board a train. Travelling by bus or car is another alternative however, the roads leading in to Aintree can get congested at peak travel times and car parking is limited at the racecourse and spaces must be purchased in advance.
By opting to travel by helicopter you can arrange to be picked up from a location of your choice and you will be dropped off directly at the racecourse. You will also get a fantastic view of the full 4 mile and 3 furlong course on your approach to Aintree an experience that will make you the envy of other race goers!
Choosing your helicopter
We have a variety of different aircraft to suit your travel needs. Some of our most popular helicopters can be seen below, for more details and to see a full list of aircraft please view our Aircraft Guide.
The Robinson R44 is a single engine, four-seat light helicopter perfect for short distance flights for up 4 passengers. The R44 has hydraulically assisted flight controls allowing for a smooth ride, responsive handling and excellent altitude performance.
The R44 is widely available for charter throughout the UK, Europe and USA and is an ideal choice of aircraft for Wedding Charters and Horse Racing Charters as well as other short distance business and leisure flights.
The Airbus Helicopters AS355 (aka Twin Squirrel) is a twin-engine light helicopter capable of transporting up to six passengers. With a maximum range of approximately 700km (435 miles) it is an ideal choice for journeys of short and longer distances, it can also be used to land in relatively built up areas with it being a twin engine aircraft.
We have sourced the AS355 for varying types of private charter such as business flights, pleasure/sightseeing flights and wedding helicopter charters. Twin engine aircraft are usually more expensive to charter than their single engine counterparts but are essential for journeys for larger groups or those needing to land in areas unsuitable for single engine helicopters.
